McPherson College seeks an enthusiastic student-centered professor to join the Behavioral Sciences Department for the 2025-26 academic year as an Assistant Professor of Sociology. This is a full-time, tenure-track, and benefits eligible position.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for providing 24 credit hours of instruction in Sociology and Criminal Justice per year. The person in this appointment will teach major and general education courses, offer up to two online general education classes per year, maintain regular office hours, attend meetings, advise Behavioral Sciences majors, assist with recruiting, and participate in the governance of the college, and perform other duties within the scope of this position as assigned.
A minimum of a Ph.D. degree in Sociology or a related field is preferred (ABD candidates as well as candidates with master’s degrees will also be considered for this appointment). The ideal candidate will have teaching or scholarly experience in one or more of the following areas: criminal justice, diversity, urban sociology, social problems, social work, research methods, and introduction to sociology. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of high-quality teaching experience at the collegiate level. Candidates must possess the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to diverse students, and facilitate student learning.
