Teaching Philosophy
I approach my teaching enthusiastically and humbly. I will do everything I can to ensure a student succeeds in my courses if the willingness on their part is there and they meet me in the middle. I try to just not bring my academic credentials to the class, but also my years of experience by sharing how I’ve applied and sometimes have misapplied those lessons and concepts that I’m teaching them in my own professional life. I encourage students to analyze and learn from failure; whether it theirs, mine, or others so they can apply what they’ve learned and not repeat the mistake.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching in a variety of settings and teaching many different learning types. I have taught numerous graduate-level MBA, Management, and Executive courses as well as many traditional undergraduate and returning adult courses. For me, teaching is much more than a student memorizing and reciting back a fact I’ve given them. It’s also instilling a value in the student to do their own thinking; for developing critical analysis skills so they think their way through a problem and apply an ethical solution. Knowledge is power, but only if what is learned can be applied and I’m always thinking about that when I develop a course or a lesson plan.
